Who I'm Voting for and Why -- Go Independent American Party

If you have information on any of these candidates
that you think will sway my vote, please feel free to share it with me.
For president, I'm voting for Howard Phillips of the Constitution Party, which
is also affiliated with the Independent American Party, which has a strong
presence in Utah.
In Utah, there are a great many candidates from the Independent American Party
appearing on most ballots. In South Sanpete County we will have nine
candidates from that party on our ballot -- a historic record for any third
party in America since around the turn of the century when third parties were
not so marginal. The Independent American Party is not only pro-individual
responsibility and pro-original intent of the Constitution (e.g. for freedom),
but they are also anti-New World Order conspiracy -- something that could
never be said about the Republican Party, and certainly not about the
Democratic Party. Both of these parties have become socialist, though the
Republican Party platform itself is much less so than the Democratic Party's
platform. The Natural Law party seems even more socialist than the Democrats.
The reason I favor the Independent American Party over the Libertarian party
is epitomized in the abortion issue. Libertarians say the government should
stay out because this is a private decision. The Independent American Party
says that the fetus has rights independent of those of the mother that should
be protected by the government. I agree.
However, when the choice is between Libertarian and Republican, the
Libertarians have so many more redeeming qualities than the Republicans in
general I will usually go for the Libertarian.
So, with that in mind . . .
HERE IS WHO I AM VOTING FOR
PRESIDENT - Howard Phillips, Constitution Party
U.S. SENATE - Carlton Bowen, Independent American Party (IAP)
U.S. CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT #3 - Mike Lehman, IAP
GOVERNOR - Jeremy Friedbaum, IAP
LT. GOVERNOR - Lee Mckenzie, IAP
ATTORNEY GENERAL - write-in Sid Unrau
All ballot candidates are too tied into the system. My friend Sid is an
attorney, has a good head on his shoulders, and is quite conservative.
The Democrats say Shurtleff has received significant funding from Big Tobacco.
STATE AUDITOR - Jim Elwell, Libertarian
It's especially prudent to have a non-Republican or Democrat in this role.
STATE TREASURER - Hugh A. Butler, Libertarian
UTAH STATE SENATE DISTRICT 28 - Gary Van Horn, IAP
very impressive
UTAH HOUSE DISTRICT 68 - Frank M. Crowther, IAP
Great bloke, very involved
COUNTY COMMISSIONER, SANPETE - Benton Petersen, IAP
However, Dettinger is a decent candidate. I was impressed with how he
carried himself in the debate Saturday evening 11/4/00. Bessy (write-in)
is too much into government control.
SCHOOL BOARD - Nancy R. Jensen
Frank Crowther's comment: "Kathy Frandsen is too much into Federal
programs. Kim Pickett was interested in making the school money go farther and
economizing certain salaries i.e. Principal getting $100.000 per year seems
excessive."
PROPOSITION NO. 1 - No
A lack of rebuttal in the printed voter guide makes me suspicious when there
were a few votes against it when it came up in the legislature. Any further
info would be appreciated. It is so easy to slip tricky little changes into
so-called "routine" updates of the law.
PROPOSITION NO. 2 - For
Makes the most financial and responsibility sense. However, I disagree with
the means by which this money was gained in the first place. The tobacco
companies should be liable to some extent for the health damages from their
product, considering their deceptive advertising, but the amount exacted is
ridiculous.
INITIATIVE A (English as official language of Utah) - Against
I'm not against English as the primary language, but turning this over to the
government and its bureaucracy is a mistake, in my opinion. I don't think
there should be legislation either way, either requiring language in English
or requiring materials be printed in other languages. Let the need be address
on a case-for-case basis, not legislated across the board.
INITIATIVE B (Utah Property Protection Act) - For -
Law amended to forbid forfeiture (seizure and sale [by the law]) of property
involved in crime where an innocent owner neither knew of nor consented to the
crime. . . .
Police are against this because it has been a major source of revenue for them
(amounts to stealing from the innocent; a form of socialism).
Utah Initiative B - YES - by
David R. Bishop, Retired Salt Lake County Sheriff's Captain (currently 80%
support for initiative B). "Drug money has corrupted law
enforcement by providing a means whereby money and assets can accrue to police
departments without proper controls. I urge your support for Initiative
B!"
SANPETE COUNTY REFERENDUM #1 - Yes
To keep the growth to the cities, not the agriculture areas.
SANPETE COUNTY REFERENDUM #2 - Yes
ditto
Any suggestions?
