Sandra Hawkins was the first
(Sept. 16, 2001) to
think of looking up chapters:verses 9:11 in their various locations in the
scriptures with the September 11 Attack on America in mind. Following
are excerpts from her original post and reports additional finds of
relevance.
Her original report is archived at

While I was composing this page on chapters:verses 9:11, I received an
email from Jeanette Skeem who thought of looking up the ninth book of the Book
of Mormon, eleventh chapter. It is posted at:
Whether or not these coincidences of meaning in chapters 9 and verse 11 are
intended by God through some fantastic foresight and overseeing of things as
miniscule as the numbering of the chapters and verses, no one will argue that
the exercise of applying scriptures to a given circumstance can be
fruitful. At least, keeping that in mind, this can't be considered a
waste of time. I think you will see that the degree of specificity in
the matches to the September 11 attack surpasses the probability of sheer
chance and bespeaks divine design.
All instances of 9:11 in the Book of Mormon are listed below, though not in
chronological sequence. Some books do not have nine chapters; some
chapters 9 do not have 11 verses. My comments are [in Brackets]
"And because they did cast them all
out, that there were none righteous among them, I did
send down fire and destroy them, that their wickedness and
abominations might be hid from before my face, that the blood of the prophets
and the saints whom I sent among them might not cry unto me from the ground
against them."
-- III Nephi 9:11
".If it had not been for [God's] matchless power,
and his mercy, and his long-suffering towards us, we should have unavoidably
have been cut off from the face of the earth long before this period of time"
-- Alma 9:11
[We've had this coming for a long time. May we repent
lest much worse come upon us.]
".After we had dwelt in the land for the space of
twelve years . . . king Laman began to grow uneasy, lest by any means my
people should wax strong in the land, and that they could not overpower
them and bring them into bondage."
-- Mosiah 9:11
[Applications go both ways.]
"Now the people of Akish were desirous
for gain, even as Akish was desirous for
power; wherefore, the sons of Akish did
offer them money, by which means they drew away the more part of
the people after them."
-- Ether 9:11
[World Trade Center; financial district of New York City --
capital of world socialism; American public lured by money rather than
principles, allows a conspiracy to take over the reigns of government and
media.]
"O my beloved son, how can a people
like this, that are without civilization
--" [see continuation]
Moroni 9:11
Moroni 9 continued:
12 (And only a few years have passed away, and they
WERE a civil and a delightsome people)
13 But O my son, how can a people like this, whose delight is in so much
abomination --
14 How can we expect that God will say his hand in judgment against us?
15 Behold, my heart cries: Wo unto this people. Come
out in judgment, O God, and hide their sins, and wickedness, and
abominations from before thy face!
[U.S. views Islamic nations as being 'backwards' and
'uncivilized,' when in many regards, the opposite is true when it comes to
upright living -- especially in New York.]
".were gathered together at the burial."
-- Helaman 9:11
".Because of the way of deliverance of our God,
the Holy One of Israel, this death, of
which I have spoken, which is the temporal, shall deliver up its dead; which
death is the grave."
-- II Nephi 9:11
[Israel/Jacob = Descendant of Isaac. Q. Why do the
scriptures so often speak of 'our God' as being the 'Holy One of
Israel.' Is 'Their' God the 'Holy One of Ishmael'? The root of our
separateness is engrained even in our most holy scriptures, but must it be
so? We know God extended covenant blessings to Ishmael as well as to
Isaac.]
".I will show unto you a God of miracles, even
the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob; and it is that same God
who created the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are."
-- Mormon 9:11
[And the God of Ishmael . . . 'same God']

"I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all
flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall
there any more be a flood to destroy the
earth."
-- Genesis 9:11
[.but as for fire! That's up to you! Will it be a fire of
destruction or a fire of the Holy Spirit to change the hearts of willing men
and women -- or a little of both, depending on our choices?]
"And the magicians could not stand before Moses
because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the
Egyptians."
-- Exodus 9:11
[Will be harden our hearts as Pharaoh to the signs and wonders?
Magicians = insiders who run the socialist New World Order, who were
themselves impacted by this attack. Egyptians = Americans.]
"The fourteenth day of the second month at even
they shall keep it, and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs."
-- Numbers 9:11
[Application not obvious. Perhaps this reference to the
keeping of the Passover suggests:
that what happened, though bad, could have been much worse, but was mitigated
to serve as a warning lest far worse come upon us.]
"And it came to pass at the end of
forty days and forty nights, that the Lord gave me the two tables of stone,
even the tables of the covenant."
-- Deuteronomy 9:11
[Let's return to the 10 commandments. Return them to the
walls of our schools and of our public buildings.]
"Wherefore our elders and all the
inhabitants of our country spake to us, saying, Take victuals with you for the
journey, and go to meet them, and say unto them, We are your servants:
therefore now make ye a league with us."
-- Joshua 9:11
[Hard-wired into American psyche is the concept
that you do not make concessions with terrorist -- ever. At first
glance, this verse would appear to support that view, inasmuch as it is in
reference to that time anciently when the Gibeonites by craft obtain a league
with Israel against the express command of God. The reason for this
command was that the surrounding nations were steeped in wickedness, and their
moral decadence would prove a downfall to Israel. What about
today? Who is the wicked nation? Based on the Ten Commandments,
the nations of Islam are doing a far better job of adhering to the basic laws
of civility set forth by Moses. In the spirit of "the first shall
be last, and the last shall be first," perhaps it is time for us to
realize that we are indeed brothers (Ishmael and Isaac) and that we both need
to be reconciled one with another in the Lord.]
"But the fig trees said unto them, Should I forsake
my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?"
-- Judges 9:11
[I don't see an application. Perhaps someone else more
familiar with the story can draw forth its meaning.]
1 Sam 9:11 -- application not apparent
2 Sam. 9:11 -- application not apparent. ".he shall eat
at my table, as one of the king's sons," perhaps the idea of
reconciliation.
1 Kings 9:11 -- application not apparent (verse 10 speaks of
two houses [twin towers?] built -- one for Lord (church), one for king
(state). Two streets intersection WTC have similar names (church,
state?).]
".Is all well? wherefore came this
mad fellow to thee? You know the man and his communication."
-- 2 Kings 9:11
[Despite rhetoric to the contrary, the U.S. Intelligence had
numerous leads pointing to Sept. 11 attack.]
-- 1 Chronicles 9:11 -- application not apparent. ".the
ruler of the house of God."
"And the king made . . . terraces to
the house of the Lord, and to the king's palace.; and there were none such
seen before in the land"
-- 2 Chronicles 9:11
[Sounds like the city of ancient Babylon. Likewise does
today's wealth rival Babylon the great -- which fell. Because of the
inequality of rich/poor.]
"The land, unto which ye go to possess
it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with
their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their
uncleanness."
-- Ezra 9:11
[How the Muslims view America.]
Nehemiah 9:11 -- application not apparent. Speaks of the
miracle of Moses leading the children of Israel through sea on dry land.
"On that day the number of those that
were slain in . . . the palace was brought
before the king."
-- Esther 9:11
"Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him
not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not."
-- Job 9:11
[Terrorist stealth, both in preparing and executing the
attack.]
"Sing praises to the Lord, which
dwellest in Zion: declare among the people his doings."
-- Psalm 9:11
[One of the most famous Psalms; reminding the belligerent that
God's hand in something even such as this. There is a purpose for
everything. Do we fight it or yield and learn and grow?]
"For by me they days shall be
multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased."
Proverbs 9:11
[If we learn from this warning, then worse evil might be
diminished if not turned away altogether.]
"I returned, and saw under the sun,
that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet
bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to
men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all."
-- Ecclesiastes 9:11
[Just the words a chaplain might read to console the
bewildered under circumstances such as 911. And yet to him that has eyes
to see, all things have meaning and can turn for instruction, no matter how
awful. All things are pure to him that is pure.]
"Therefore the Lord shall set up the
adversaries . . . against him, and join his enemies together;"
-- Isaiah 9:11
[If the U.S. seeks "and eye for an eye" retribution
against Osama bin Ladin and Afganistan, the allies of the Muslim world will
side with them. Verse 13 is especially important to bear in mind.
If such a scenario unfolds it will be because "the people turneth not
unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the Lord of hosts." (Isa.
9:13.)]
"And I will make Jerusalem heaps, and
a den of dragons; and I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an
inhabitant."
-- Jeremiah 9:11
[If you think what happened Tuesday Sept. 11 was horrible,
magnify that innumerable times over, and you will have what will happen if we
do not mend our ways as a civilization.]
"When they went, they went upon their
four sides; they turned not as they went, but to the place whither the head
looked they followed it; they turned not as they went."
-- Ezekiel 9:11
[Four hijacked airlines.]
[Oops, that's Ezekiel 10:11. I was looking at the header
on the top of the page "Ezekiel 9" and went to verse 11 -- of
chapter 10.]
"And, behold, the man clothed with
linen, which had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, I have
done as thou hast commanded me."
-- Ezekiel 9:11
[Osama bin Ladin; Terrorist
of God.]
"Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy
law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore
the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the
law of Moses the servant of God, because we have
sinned against him."
-- Daniel 9:11
"As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a
bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception."
-- Hosea 9:11
[3,700 abortions every day in the U.S.; nearly as many as adults killed on
9/11. Where are our sensibilities?]
"In that day will I raise up the
tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the reaches thereof; and I
will raise up his ruins, and I will build it a in the days of old."
-- Amos 9:11
[Amos 9 is the 888th chapter of the Bible. This verse
goes along with page 911 of the Bible (LDS), which contains Isaiah 42, which
is the only chapter of Isaiah found in the JST appendix -- on page 801, which
is the telephone area code of Wasatch Front Utah, including Salt Lake City.]
Verse 10 of Amos 9 reads:
"All the sinners of my people shall
die by the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us."
Verse 12 of Amos 9 reads:
"That they may possess the remnant of
Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the Lord that
doeth this."
"As for thee also, by the blood of
they covenant I have sent forth they prisoners out of the pit wherein is no
water."
-- Zechariah 9:11
[Promise of hope to those who inhabit the Baren deserts of the
Arab world. Verse 10 is extremely applicable:]
"And I will cut off the chariot from
Ephraim, and the horse from Jeruslam, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and
he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even
to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth."
-- Zechariah 9:10
[Messianic prophecy of second advent. The verse prior is
the famous messianic prophecy regarding the first advent of Messiah.]
"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion;
shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just,
and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal
of an ass."
-- Zechariah 9:9
[That is two verses prior to 911. Two verses after 911
reads:]
"Turn you to the strong hold, ye
prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto
thee."
[Strong hold = U.S.; Prisoners of hope = Muslims; double =
twin towers of WTC]
Chapters 9 verse 11 in the New Testament seem to be thematic along the lines
of the spiritual ramifications of September 11, and focus on the spiritual
remedies. All occurrences of 9:11 are listed, but not in any particular
sequence. My comments are [in brackets].
Bradley Jordan
Sept. 18, 2001
"And they had a king over them, which is the angel
of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the
Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon."
-- Revelation 9:11
[Abaddon means "destroyer." A Greek name for the
demon of the abyss.]
"If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a
great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?"
-- I Corinthians 9:11
[The "spiritual things" sewn by the Western World to the Third
World, including the Arab countries, has in too many cases been more along the
lines of gluttony, pornography, etc. The "carnal things" we
have reaped as a result include the 911 attack.]
"Being enriched in every thing to all
bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God."
-- II Corinthians 9:11
[The U.S. has been blessed above any other nation because of the
foundations of freedom upon which she was built. However, this
prosperity has not been adequately shared either among our own or with other
nations, creating a resentment on their part toward us.]
"(For the children being not yet born, neither
having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election
might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)"
-- Romans 9:11
[Referring to Isaac's twins, Jacob and Esau. The next verse applies
to the Ishmael (Arabs) vs. Isaac (Jews/Christian) situation as well:]
"It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the
younger. As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I
hated."
[Do we really believe God hates anyone? I certainly do not.
That wording had some purpose in mind, and it was not to perpetuate hatred of
an entire people because of their lineage.]
"And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his
disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?"
-- Matthew 9:11
[When I propose that our response to the atrocity of Sept. 11 should be to
humble ourselves, realizing that we 'had it coming,' and seek reconciliation
with our Muslim brothers, much of the response has been one of being appalled
that anyone would even consider such a thing.]
"And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the
street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one
called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,"
-- Acts 9:11
[This is a key verse in the story of the conversion of Saul/Paul.
Again we see the theme of the mixture or working together among those who
hitherto were forbidden by religious custom from doing so. In this case
the primary protagonist Jewish persecutor of the Christians has had a
transforming experience. Could Saul in this case be a metaphor for a
person like Osama bin Ladin?]
"And the people, when they knew it, followed him:
and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed
them that had need of healing."
-- Luke 9:11
[Does that sound like a doctrine of retaliation?]
"He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus
made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam,
and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight."
-- John 9:11
[O that we all could see.]
"And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes
that Elias must first come?"
-- Mark 9:11
[application not apparent; perhaps superbly profound, having to do with one
who must come first before something wonderful follows.]
"But Christ being come an high priest of good
things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands,
that is to say, not of this building;"
-- Hebrews 9:11
[Though the tabernacle of Christ was destroyed, yet was it raised again on
the third day. Though the United States may have experienced a major
blow on 911, the city of God that will be established on this land once it is
purified will be one made 'without hands' and all nations will flow unto it.]
[.]
Perhaps the ones who were "cast out" by Sarah -- would be allowed back in
Romans 9-11 and Romans 9:11. The Gentiles to be grafted in -- seems to be
clear.
Also, here are some other interesting 9:11 verses regarding Israel judgement
and restoration:
YHWH's anger against Israel: Isaiah 9:11 But YHWH has strengthened Rezin's
foes agasint them and has spurred their enemies on.
Rev. 9:11 They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in
Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon.
Hosea 9:11 Ephraim's glory will fly away like a bird - no birth, no
pregnancy, no conception.
Idolators killed:
Ezekiel 9:11 Then the man in linen with the writing kit at his side brought
back word, saying I have done as you commaneded.
About Judah
Jeremiah 9:11 I will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins, a haunt of jackals; and
I will lay waste the towns of Judah so no one can live there.
12 What man is wise enough to understand this? who has been instructed by
the Lord and can explain it? Why has the land been ruined and laid waste
like a desert that no one can cross? 13 The Lord said, "It is because they
have forsaken my law, which I set before them; they have not obeyed me or
followed my law. 14 Instead they have followed the stubbornness of their
hearts; they have followed the Baals, as their fathers taught them.
Amos 9:11 In that day I will restore David's fallen tent. I will repair its
broken places, restore its ruins, and build it as it used to be
911 does have "an emergency situation" definition in the U.S.
Maybe Daniel 9:11 also applies:
"All Israel has transgressed your law and turned away, refusing to obey you.
"Therefore the curses and sworn judgments written in the law of Moses , the
servant of God, have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against
you."
I can't help but think of the North and South Twin towers representing
Ephraim and Judah (Ephraim scattered to North, Judah scattered to South).
One of the towers had an antenna on it, not sure which one that was.
Anyways, I'm wondering if this is somewhat of a sign that we are in the
period of tribulation or are in birth pangs. I think all of these are signs
and YHWH speaks to us creatively in a language we understand.
Perhaps Romans 9-11 is applicable, but especially the verse about the TWINS.
Romans 9:11 (HRV): Before her sons were born and they had done neither good
nor evil, the choice of Eloah was already made known that [it] should remain
not by works but by the hand of him who called.
Sandra
"Behold, it was expedient when you commenced; but you
feared, and the time is past, and it is not expedient now;"
-- Doctrine and Covenant 9:11
At first, when I read this verse, I thought it was an example
of a non-application. However, as I look at it again, phrase by phrase,
it is highly applicable.
Phrase-by-phrase Commentary
"It was expedient"
The Country was in a state of wickedness, and deserved the long-overdue
punishment.
"when you commenced"
1. At the time the attack took place.
2. Even from the beginning, this country has not been free from turning from
the ways of uprightness, though she has been blessed and prospered of God.
"you feared"
1. Terrorist (fear) attack Sept. 11, 2001
2. Trusting in arm of flesh rather than God.
"the time is past"
1. This was long overdue.
2. It's behind you now. What are you going to do about it?
Will you repent or will you persist in the ways of wickedness and bring even
worse calamities upon you.
"it is not expedient now"
Further destructions are no longer necessary at this time. Enough people
have been awakened by this event and are humbling themselves before the Lord
and are seeking for a lasting peace through coming to a reconciliation with
their Muslim brothers, seeking to address the core issues and overcome the
obstacles to mutual understanding.
