Instructions for Setting up a Free eGroups Account

[Purpose] [Step by Step]

Purpose of eGroups

eGroups.com is a free service for group e-mail discussion lists, newsletters, or announcement lists.  They have many nice features that are well-suited for our purposes here.  They provide the service for free by placing a brief advertisement at the end of each message sent through the list.

  • Announcement List:

For (1) announcing local meeting times; (2) reporting on previous meetings; (3) exchange of coop information, such as "Barry has extra corn for any one who would like it"; (4) announcing special local events of relevance; (5) etc.

It should not be used as a discussion list, because that can generate quite a bit more e-mail volume, discouraging some people from being subscribed who only want to know about upcoming meetings and such.

  • Discussion List:

For unmoderated e-mail discussion for those from your area who wish to participate.

        MISSION:
To facilitate the local gathering together of those who are awakened to an understanding of the gospel and government of God as well as to the departures and threats these face in the current society.  To encourage fellowship, discussion, camaraderie, activity, and implementation of the principles of the kingdom of God.

The ideal marriage of church and state under God, promotes the best in each individual by protecting their freedoms and sanctifying their souls.

    2. STEP 2 OF 3: Categorize Your Group

Begin with any associates with whom you already have established a rapport.
      2. Choose invitation type:
Select "directly subscribe" if you are confident the people will be fine with being added to the list.  They can easily unsubscribe if they prefer not to be on it.
      3. Enter an introductory message:
Your personal message to these people, e.g. "I thought you would be interested in this. My apologies if you are not. You may unsubscribe at any time by following the instructions that accompany any message that comes from the list, including this one."
      4. Click on "invite members" if you entered some addresses -- or "skip" if you did not.  Now your list is created.
  3. CUSTOMIZE GROUP SETTINGS
    1. Now that your list has been created, you might wish to change some of the "settings," though the defaults should be adequate for starting out.
    2. You might also want to upgrade some of the "members" to be "moderators" along with yourself.
  4. LET US KNOW
    Once your list is created,
